Larry Eshleman
(keyboards, trumpet, tambourine, backing vocals)
Larry E., dubbed "The Professor" by his bandmates, is the band leader and director of The Black Friday Project. He also is a self-taught keyboard virtuoso whose influences include Billy Joel, Elton John and Booker T. Larry E. can typically pick out any song by ear and provide a faithful piano rendition within minutes. His keyboard wizardry allows him to "radiate on the 88" and fill out the Project's sound with piano, Hammond, saxophone, strings, ocarina—you name it—enthralling audiences with a dynamic soundscape which brings the memories and feelings of yesteryear to life. During COVID, he used quarantine to relearn the trumpet, which he last played in high school band—giving TBFP a bona fide horn section. In addition to his work with the Project, Larry E. has also been a co-director of the St. Andrew's church band Spero since 2014.
Larry Hinson
(bass guitar, backing vocals)
Larry H., playing a variety of instruments and styles, grew up listening to his parents' music which included big bands, military marches, and the sweet sax sounds of Boots Randolph. Piano lessons preceded his playing saxophone in his grade school band. High school kindled his love for rock 'n' roll, and a loaner guitar from longtime friend and future bandmate Reed Brooks got his juices flowing for that instrument. After honing his chops at Stephen F. Austin, he contributed keyboards, harmonica, guitar and a bit of vocals to a rock cover band. After a few changes in band names and band members, he now has the bass covered in the Project's tight rhythm section.
Scott Myers
(drums)
Scott began playing drums at age 10, annoying his older brother by switching his drums around to accommodate Scott’s left-handedness...you may have notice that Scott's drums are set up "backwards"! A lifelong music fanatic and record collector, Scott's favorite drummers include Ringo Starr (for his ability to play the exact right drum part for the song), Bill Bruford of Yes and King Crimson (for his crispness and ability to make complex rhythms sound simple) and Benny Benjamin who played on countless Motown hits (for his feel-good, in-the-pocket groove). Scott was the drummer at St. Pius church in Corpus Christi for 15 years and enjoyed brief stints with The Sixties and The Apple Scruffs after moving to Houston in 2014. In addition to the Black Friday Project, Scott plays drums with The West Mains, a Houston-based surf-rock band. Scott is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lay down the unstoppable backbeat for The Black Friday Project!
Steve Schaeffer
(lead vocals, harmonica)
The frontman for The Black Friday Project, Steve injects heart and soul into every lyric he sings. With an encyclopedic knowledge of pop/rock spanning the 1950s through the ’80s, he lists the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and the Beatles atop his gamut of musical influences. Formerly the lead singer of The Sixties, Steve also brings experience in improvisational comedy to his special breed of audience engagement.
Robert Whitley
(guitar, backing vocals)
Robert has been a classic rock enthusiast from his first memory of CCR’s Down on the Corner playing on the AM car radio while he stood on the front seat of his parents' 1969 Dodge Dart at the age of 3. Robert is a self-taught guitarist whose musical influences include Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Edward Van Halen and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He has entertained friends and family for years, playing at parties and family gatherings. The Black Friday Project marks Robert’s first stint as a professional musician.

MEET THE BLACK FRIDAY PROJECT
True to its name, The Black Friday Project was formed the day after Thanksgiving, 2015. The nucleus of the group (Reed Brooks, Larry Eshleman, and drummer emeritus Michael Chase) were and are members of the contemporary church band Spero at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Pearland. They looked to the Project as a great "what if" to find a way to play and share the classic rock and R&B they grew up listening to and revering. Friends Steve Schaeffer, Larry Hinson, Robert Whitley, and Scott Myers rounded out the group, and together they have turned a Project into a bona fide mission to rock the greater Houston area. They are looking for booking opportunities to share their brand of grab-you-by-the-ears-and-feet music.
